A microstate of a physical system is described by a point in phase space, by canonical coordinates. It describes all information about the specific microscopic configuration of the system.
From this perspective, microstates show possible different ways the system can achieve a particular macrostate.
The microstate of a macroscopic system is not possible to measure, only its macrostate can be measured.
