A solid material whose constituents (such as atoms, molecules, or ions) are arranged in a crystal lattice that extends in all directions. The arrangement that can be found at each lattice point is called the basis. A basis may consist of atoms, molecules, or polymer strings of solid matter and the lattice provides the locations of the basis.
